Quick Facts On Denver
Originally named “Dry Pond” Denver was renamed by a local school principal named Matt Thompson. The town was working to get rail service, and felt that Dry Pond didn’t sound attractive enough. Mr. Thompson picked the name Denver to name it after the capitol of Colorado, a state that was being considered admission to the Union.
Denver was incorporated in 1877, but lost it’s incorporation in 1971. The failure to entice the railway to come through their town hindered development and the state of North Carolina rescinded their incorporation. However the popularity of Charlotte has provided a major boon to towns in the area, and Denver has become a popular town on Lake Norman. It’s anticipated by many to grow along with the greater Charlotte area.
